Founded in New York City in 2006, Daphne Zepos's vision was to sell a single cheese in its best possible condition: Comté. Not satisfied to simply accept cheese through standard distribution channels, Daphne insisted on selecting the cheese herself, generating a sense-connection between the affineur, the cheesemonger and the end customer. Daphne died in 2012 but her vision persists -- Essex still hand selects every batch. Today Essex St. Cheese imports a small selection of iconic European cheeses. Essex, like us, believes in the importance of quality and authenticity, and they work tirelessly not only to source these wonderful cheeses, but importantly to educate the customers who buy them.
